1. WHAT IS COMMUNICATIONS?
Communication is the exchange of information and ideas through varied mediums (television, radio, print, etc.).
2. WHAT MAJORS AND MINORS DOES THE DEPARTMENT OFFER?
The Communications Department offers majors in Communications (either a Media or Professional Communications concentration). The Department also offers minors in Media and Professional Communications
3. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MEDIA AND PROFESSIONAL CONCENTRATIONS?
The media concentration focuses on television and film production. This includes video production (both field and studio), editing, directing, and scriptwriting. The professional concentration focuses on advertising, public relations, and event planning.
4. WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
The Molloy College television studio offers students the opportunity to work with high definition equipment in the Molloy College television studio and control room. Equipment includes cameras, tripods, studio lighting, audio, production switcher, and Chyron for digital graphics, among other production tools.
5. WHAT IS THE MEDIA LAB?
The media lab is open to all Communications students. The lab consists of 24 iMac computers. All computers are updated with the latest version of Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc.), Microsoft Office, Avid Media Composer, and Final Cut Pro. Students can visit the lab to edit their film and television productions and complete homework assignments.
6. DOES THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT OFFER INTERNSHIPS?
As a Communication Major you will be given the opportunity to intern at some of the most well known companies in New York. Our students have interned at companies such as Disney, MSG Sports, and NBC. Visit our intern page to read more about their experiences.
7. WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THIS PROGRAM?
Our ultimate goal is to help students achieve their creative goals! We have designed a program specifically for the students here in the Communications Department. Our mission is to meet the needs of all our students and guide them to enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding in the media and professional industries throughout their time in the program. Lastly, we want our students to produce amazing video productions, enhance writing skills (press releases, scripts), design advertising campaigns and have fun learning!
8. WHAT JOBS CAN YOU GET?
There are many different career paths that you can take with a degree in Communications. Editor, TV Producer, Director, Scriptwriter, Production Assistant and Journalist are just some of the many career choices you will have after graduating with a Media degree in Communications. As a professional major you can work in public relations, advertising, event planning, human resources, and more!
